Glamping Is The New Camping
Camping isn’t for everyone. Basic amenities, uneven ground and complicated tents are just a few reasons why many are turning to more luxurious camping alternatives to enjoy the stunning landscapes Scotland has to offer.
Glamping is the perfect way to experience the outdoors without having to compromise on home comforts. The rising popularity in luxury camping sites means there is a huge variety of options from wigwams and yurts to camping pods and domes and we’ve compiled a list of the very best Scotland has to offer.
Located in the town of Turriff is Clochforbie Yurts. The site hosts two pet-friendly yurts which offer king size beds and fully fitted kitchens for added luxury. A large decking area complete with a barbeque means you can enjoy a perfect balance of the great outdoors and comfortable living space in these quirky yurts. The local town has a fantastic selection of small, independent shops or if you want to venture further, the nearby Delgatie Castle lets you take in the picturesque fields of Aberdeenshire.
If you’re looking for something a little different, Down on the Farm in Fraserburgh hosts a number of ‘Hobbits.’ The pods, often described as Smarties tubes on their sides, are nestled on top of a hill in rural Aberdeenshire offering striking views over the Moray Firth. The unique pods are fully insulated to keep guests cosy and dry and a kettle, microwave, fridge and TV mean you have all the home comforts in the heart of nature. Each Hobbit also features a dining area with chairs, tables and a private fire pit to keep you warm on colder nights.
West Beach Caravan Park in Hopeman, Moray, is a beach front grass park providing glamping as well as pitches for motorhomes, touring caravans and tents. It’s located on the stunning Moray coast which has been voted in the top 20 most beautiful coastal areas on the planet by National Geographic. West Beach hosts three glamping wagons which offer a brilliant place to chill out after a day of exploring the coastal walks and caves nearby. With an en-suite shower, kitchen area, double bed and heating it has everything you need for a cosy romantic weekend or just a relaxing break.
If you want to enjoy the renowned Speyside area, Wig Wam Holidays’ site ‘The Loft’, located between Forres and Elgin, is a perfect option. It’s unique wigwam cabins are fully equipped with bedding, fairy lights, blankets, cushions, a fire basket, logs and marshmallows – all you could possibly need for a weekend of glamping! The nearby Moray Firth is a fantastic spot for dolphin spotting and the site is conveniently located on the Malt Whisky Trail if you fancy a wee dram after a day of activities.
If you’re looking for an extra luxurious experience, the Armadilla camping pods at Glen Nevis let you take in the stunning Highland scenery in comfort. The site offers glamping bed pods best suited for couples and small families. Each pod benefits from double glazed windows and underfloor thermostat controlled heating allowing you to soak up the great outdoors in a cosier environment! The park features a fantastic restaurant and bar, children’s play area and drive-through service points for motorohomes and caravans are also available. The surrounding area has plenty on offer with forest trails, cycling routes and the breath-taking splendour of Ben Nevis.
